One of my favorite parts of writing is meeting my readers! I’m available for half and full day school visits or to meet with your group or club. Between my two series I have workshops to cover Kindergarten through 5th grade. Please contact me for more information.
Perfectly Poppy, Grades K-2
Seven-year-old Poppy is the perfect mix of smarts and humor. Although she loves to watch TV, Poppy is always up for a new adventure. Using realistic scenarios, these early chapter books showcase the importance of a healthy lifestyle in a refreshing and light manner. I will explore with the students fun ways to be active and make healthy choices.
What does a great author wear? Where’s the best place to write? What are some important characteristics of a great writer? These are some of questions the students will answer in this engaging workshop. I will guide the students all together and in small groups as they ‘create’ a great author inside and out.
In this presentation I discuss my journey towards becoming a published author that began way back in fourth grade.
What People Are Saying:
Michele’s presentation was the highlight of our elementary school’s Literacy Night. She gave an engaging talk to students and parents covering everything from the creative writing process to watching an illustrator bring her characters to life. By the end of the presentation it was standing room only, and Michele happily stayed afterwards to sign copies of her books.

We had the pleasure of having Michele Jakubowski as our guest author at the 2014 Young Author’s Program this spring. Michele actively engaged with the students and got them very excited about writing. The evaluations submitted from the students and the staff members concerning Michele were very positive. Parents and teachers were quite impressed with Mrs. Jakubowski’s interaction with the students. She is a creative, funny, and very encouraging speaker. We are looking forward to working with her again in the future.

Ms. Jakubowski was very comfortable with the kids and invited them to be part of her presentations. Her interactive approach engaged even our most reluctant students to share their ideas about writing and illustrating. The books speak for themselves and both series are very popular with kids from grades K-4. This was a great opportunity for Lowell students to see into the world of an author and experiment with their own talents as authors and illustrators.

Recently, Michele visited our elementary school in North Lake, Wisconsin. She read and answered questions with 4K-2nd graders. Students were eager to learn more about Michele and her ideas for books. Our first grade class even offered some future title suggestions for Poppy.
Later in the morning, Michele conducted classroom visits with 3rd and 4th graders. She helped them understand what process a writer goes though and how this process might look to someone of the age 9 or 10.
It was a wonderful author visit! Michele’s warm and encouraging demeanor has inspired many young writers at North Lake School. We will look forward to future visit from Michele J.
